About Humoresque Cartoons
Humoresque is a single panel cartoon that casts a sharp and acerbic light on our society, everyday lives, and social customs. It uses absurd situations to show how ridiculous many of the “normal” things we take for granted really are.
Humoresque appears in many online and print publications, including OVI Magazine, Paper Darts Literary Arts Magazine, The Feathertale Review, Piano Professional, Clavier Companion, The Nth Degree, Defenestration Magazine, Genome Technology, The Jewish Press, Hardwood Floors, International Musician, Z Magazine, Teemings, Prattle, The Indianapolis Star, Fanc-e-Mews, and Polite Company Magazine. They have also appeared internationally in textbooks, merchandise, and many educational presentations. The title “Humoresque” comes from the musical genre of the same name, meaning a short, capricious composition.
About the Cartoonist
Thanks for visiting my website! My name is Loren Fishman, and I’m a freelance cartoonist and creator of “Humoresque.” I hope you enjoy the cartoons here. I’m passionate about cartooning and its ability to communicate in our modern world.
From a very young age, I exhibited an aptitude for doodling aimlessly in school, and making inane remarks in social situations. Cartooning was inevitable. My cartoons first ran in The Minnesota Daily Newspaper in 2009, and have since been published in many online and print magazines. In addition to cartooning, I work as a classical pianist, and teach music as a university professor.
About this Website
Some fellow cartoonists and artists have been curious about the tools I used to build this website. I’m happy to share that info here. This website is built on the WordPress platform. This is free and easy to install through almost any hosting provider. For hosting, I use SiteGround. They have great customer support, and I’ve never had any problems with site speed, or malware. For custom web services like design and custom plugin development, I always hire the awesome people at Site Mavericks. I’d highly recommend them for any website-related or WordPress project.
The framework of this site, which allows me to sell my cartoons online, is a combination of a WordPress theme called Astra and plugins called Easy Digital Downloads and Elementor. All of these tools are fantastic, and I highly recommend them for selling cartoons, artwork, photography, or any digital product. Some other helpful tools that make this site possible are Extras for Elementor and Dynamic Content for Elementor.
This site is typeset using Lato for headings and Cabin for body text, both of which are free from Google Fonts. I use Times for cartoon captions, because it’s the least intrinsically funny typeface I can imagine, which makes me think the jokes don’t get any extra subliminal help.
